I have had lifelong interests in both psychology and art. I attended the Atlanta College of Art for two years and experimented with several art forms before discovering clay. My figures combine clay's tactile, sensuous immediacy and my fascination with people. My unused graduate degree in Developmental Psychology, where I studied chimpanzees, is evident in the human-animal hybrid sculptures.

All of my pieces are handbuilt with stoneware or earthenware clay and fired several times with oxide washes, underglazes and glazes. I like to leave surfaces rough and textured for layered, variegated colors and depth and complexity to the surface.

My foremost creative goal is to honor the female, portraying humanity's connection to animals and to the spirit world through the female figure. My human-animal hybrids signify that we are but one of many animal species, related to the others both physically and emotionally. They offer an imaginative leap to our connectedness and to the spirit world. The series of vanitas iconography uses animal bones bleached by the Texas sun and the Commedia dell'Arte figures have removable masks sculpted in clay. I sculpt with stoneware or earthenware clay, working solid, then hollowing the figures. Each piece is fired several times with oxide washes, underglazes and glazes for layered, multi-colored surfaces, giving them an abstract quality.
