Deanna Cain
Alabama
After being diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2003, Deanna Cain was given orders “to go home and get her affairs in order”. Choosing to fight the illness, she created a “bucket list” as inspiration for recovery.
Deanna had always been drawn to the ceramic face jugs of folk art, and added her desire to create one of these pieces to her list.
As she regained strength after treatment, Deanna Cain enrolled in a pottery class. Sculpting in clay was just as she imagined, and it soon became her passion. She now creates face jugs inspired by political and cultural figures throughout history.
I never know what emotion will be expressed until I am finished.
