Self-taught
Millions of wine bottles are disposed of yearly, most of which end up in landfills. A few are ground up and reused in a variety of endeavors. Fewer still end up in a creative studio in Alabama – we call them the “lucky ones.” For the past several years, Steve Smith has been cutting, melting, shaping and coloring wine bottles and other assorted discarded glass pieces into a myriad of fascinating creations. All of the glass pieces are unique; there are no molds or patterns. There may be similarities in style, but each piece is individually made by hand. They are definitely one-of-a-kind, and all the glass is recycled. The “lucky ones” will have a long, happy life on your wall, adorning your neck, or in your yard.
